Your Wedding day will always be one of the biggest days in a woman’s life, since you were a little girl you will have dreamt of the day when you walk down the aisle to meet and marry your Prince Charming. Everything that you have ever read, seen, dreamt or been told about love comes down to this one day and everything has to be perfect on this day. From the weather to the flowers, from the music to the seating arrangements and what could be more important than your wedding dress and hairstyle. Photos of the wedding will forever immortilise this day. These photos will be shown to all visitors, guests and relatives alike, even to children and grand children.
After the big task of finding the perfect wedding dress for your special day, it is important to decide on the hairstyle that will compliment this special dress.
Getting a beautiful hairdo for you special day does not necessarily mean spending countless hours at the hair salon. Hair extensions serve the purpose of adding colour, volume and bounce, whilst saving you time, money and effort. You also get the added bonus of knowing that your hair is not going to lose its shape or fall out. Let’s have a look at some popular wedding hairstyles using extensions that will be a perfect fit for your dress:
When the dress exposes the shoulders, you must aim to show off your shoulders and wear your hair up. Or if you feel that your shoulders are too exposed you can still wear your hair down and just reveal one shoulder by sweeping the hair back over one shoulder or in a side swept ponytail or a variation of the side swept up do into a side bun would also work. The key is to show off the line of the bodice of the dress – you’ll more than likely have some detail on the top of your dress, you don’t want this hidden by your hair. By using extensions, you can create some very elaborate hairstyles easily and without a lot of fuss!
If your dress is simple such as the fabric might be plain or it may just contain a spaghetti strap. You may want to glam it up with an intricate or a sophisticated hairstyle. This prevents you from looking too casual and makes sure that the bridesmaids or guests of honour do not outshine you at your own wedding! And we don’t want that! To create the hairstyle shown, simply add your extensions, curl the hair and then pin it up, adding a cute flower or hair clip to add some style. I’d recommend adding some dangling earrings as well, to really set your look off.
If your wedding gown is extremely detailed, maybe it has long sleeves, embellishments or a high collar, you may want to counter balance this with a simpler hairdo. With a detailed gown you want to keep your hairdo chic and simple. In this photo, because there is also a very intricate veil, the hair has been wound into a bun, with the front sections of the hair simply tucked behind the ear. If your dress is like this, with a high collar or maybe you are wearing a halter neck, then an updo is key for letting your dress shine. Another option for your hair is to wear it half up/half down. You can do this by taking the hair from behind your ears and forward of this and putting it up. With the hair that is left behind, it will automatically sit behind your shoulders, especially if you have added hair extensions. This is where you can curl the hair to give it a bit of movement.
Accessories should be the last piece to add to your hair that will bring your whole look together. They shouldn’t be overpowering in that they draw all the attention away from the rest of the ensemble, but should be the cherry on top of the cake. The choice of hair accessories is an important one as you will have to choose between various tiaras, hair clips and veils. The accessory has to compliment the dress and the hairstyle. If you have thick hair you may want to go with an accessory that is more bold, compared to a thinner smaller one which would be overpowered by the sheer volume of your hair.
Choose colours or options that suit the rest of your dress. Most bridal shops now stock hair accessories and if you are utilising hair extensions, this is a great way to really show off your hairdo.
In the end, whatever you choose to do on your special day, make sure you have a few trial runs with your chosen hairdresser. You may find that once you have your dress and your bridesmaids dresses, that you’ll decide on a different look. It’s key to communicate this to your hairdresser ahead of time so she can prepare and make sure that she has all the right equipment to make you look amazing on your special day!
