It then undergoes a process of de-pigmentation, similar to that of how the finest cashmere is treated before colouring. No bleach or harsh chemicals are used to strip the hair of its cuticle layer. The result is tangle free, fade resistant, beautiful and healthy hair in vibrant colours that never fade.

Great Lengths keratin bonds do not damage your hair. The bond is applied using a heated applicator, which is provides less heat than a curling iron. The applicator simply moulds the bond around your natural hair and leaves it to cool. The bond is so tiny and lightweight that it is virtually undetectable and causes no stress whatsoever to your natural hair.

Caring for your hair extensions is easy. You must not shampoo your hair for 48 hours after your hair extensions have been applied. This will give enough time for the bonds to settle and to make sure they will not slide out through premature contact with cleansing chemicals. Expect to see small quantities of naturally released hair trapped in the bonds after some time. This is quite normal and should not be interpreted as hair being pulled out of the scalp by the extensions themselves. These can be cut by your stylist to avoid tangling close to the roots.

Sleeping:

At bed time it is best to tie your hair back in a soft low ponytail, or into a plat to avoid tangling. You may also sleep on a satin pillowcase to allow your hair to move freely while you sleep.

Brushing:

It is recommended that you brush your hair once or twice a day using a ‘Great Lengths’ brush which is specifically designed for these extensions. Separate your applied strands using your fingers and slowly brush close to the scalp. Use a wide tooth comb to gently remove tangles from mid-strands to ends. Do not use a comb near the scalp area and the bonds.

Styling:

Straightening irons, hot rollers and curling irons may be used on the hair extensions but you must keep them at least 3-4 cm away from the hair bonds.

Washing your hair:

To shampoo your hair, use sulphur free shampoo and tilt your hair back and cleanse from the top of the head downward. Condition your hair to detangle from mid lengths to ends. Dry your hair by wrapping it with a microfibre headwrap or a towel to remove moisture. Make sure to dry the base area thoroughly to avoid bond breakdown. If you are using a blow dryer, use medium to low heat and finish with a cool shot once the hair is completely dry.

Swimming:

Prior to swimming, wet the hair with water to prevent chlorine and salt water sticking to your hair. Immediately after swimming, shampoo and condition your hair to avoid any build up. Activities that result in a constant damp environment, especially swimming in sea water and chlorine, may lessen the longevity of your hair extensions.
